Romanian Visa


As of January 1st, 2007 (the date of Romania’s accession to the European Union), the Australian and New-Zealand citizens are exempted from obtaining short stay visas for Romania (no visas are required for stays not longer than 90 days within 6 months, from the date of the first entry in Romania).

For citizens of other countries, there might be rquired a Romanian visa, which is granted by the diplomatic missions or consular offices abroad. It is NOT possible to obtain visas at the Romanian Border.

Visa requirements:
Visa application form
The only application form we accept is the one attached.
- Passport of the applicant (original and photocopy)
The validity term of the passport on which the visa is to be applied must exceed the validity term of the requested visa with at least 6 months. At least one blank page should be available in the passport in order to affix the visa sticker. Damaged passport are not accepted.
- Two recent passport size photographs
- Copy of the travel itinerary
- Medical insurance to cover hospital charges, valid for the entire period of stay in Romania
- Proof of sufficient funds for the entire period of stay in Romania, in the amount of at least 100 Euro per day (bank statement in the applicant’s name, travellers cheques or credit card statement)
- Proof of accommodation in Romania (reservation for tourist services or letter of invitation)
- Proof of the purpose of the travel to Romania
- Self-addressed envelope (Express Post, Registered Post, etc.)
- Applicant’s contact details (phone no., e-mail, fax no., etc.)



Visa fees: 128 Australian dollars
Payments can be made by money order for the Embassy of Romania or cash.



Please be aware that:

  • Your visa request will be declined if you do not complete the application in its entirety.
  • You are not allowed to stay in Romania longer than the period you have requested (question no. 25 in the application form). The duration of your stay is specified on your visa.
  • The duration of your stay cannot exceed 90 days within 6 months on a regular visa, even if you requested more.
  • If you intend to stay longer, you need to apply for a long-term visa.
